The Cabbage Soup Diet

This is a strict low-calorie eating regime for 7 days, which entails replacing main meals with a soup made mainly of cabbage, which you can eat an unlimited amount of. The cabbage soup is supposed to suppress hunger and curb the appetite. This diet is not suitable for long-term weight loss; it is a low-fat, high-fibre short-term fix that many celebrities use to lose an average of 10lbs in a week.

Celebrities like Beyonce, Jaime Pressly, Zoe Ball and Sarah-Michelle Gellar are reported to use this diet, often before red carpet events to ensure they look fabulous for the cameras.

Day 1: The soup and also any fruit, except bananas, can be consumed. You can drink unsweetened teas, cranberry juice and water all week
Day 2: Cabbage soup and add most fresh vegetables (except dry beans, corn and peas). No fruit today. A baked jacket potato with a little butter is included today
Day 3: Cabbage soup plus fruit and veg
Day 4: Cabbage soup and bananas and skimmed milk is allowed
Day 5 : Beef (20 ounces) or chicken (no skin) or fish and up to 6 fresh tomatoes are eaten with the soup, 6-8 glasses water
Day 6: Beef (or other options) and vegetables and one portion of cabbage soup
Day 7: Brown rice, vegetables (no potatoes) and unsweetened 100% fruit juices accompany the soup.

Cabbage Soup Recipe

cabbage soup diet Half a head of cabbage, chopped
6 onions, chopped
2 green peppers, chopped
2 cans of tomatoes (chopped)
3 carrots, sliced
10 oz. mushrooms, sliced
1 bunch of celery, chopped
1 or 2 vegetable stock cubes or 1 pkt dry vegetable soup mix (optional)
Seasoning - salt, pepper, mixed herbs, curry powder, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, etc.

Heat a heavy non-stick pan and dry fry (or with just a spray of oil) onions and peppers. Add cabbage, carrots, mushrooms and celery. If you prefer a spicy soup, add the curry powder or cayenne pepper. Add tinned tomatoes and around 4 pints (2.27litres) of water or vegetable stock Cover and put heat on low. Let soup cook slowly for a at least two hours. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

The low levels of calories, protein, and other food groups do not make this a sustainable eating plan. If stock cubes and dried soup mix are used, rather than just natural vegetables, the soup can be quite high in salt which is not a healthy option. Plenty of water should be consumed with the cabbage soup diet.

However, the main ingredients of cabbage soup are green vegetables which are fibre-rich and full of anti-oxidants. This is more a quick fix fasting plan than a diet, and as it only contains around 1000 calories a day this regime comes with a health warning.

Calorie Restriction/ Longer Life diet /120 year diet

This vigorous plan consists of a limited diet of steamed vegetables, fish and nuts. Followers steam or eat raw food instead of using 'extreme heat' cooking, such as frying, grilling, barbecuing or roasting.

Followers of the CR diet aim to reduce the amount of their daily calories by 20 to 25 percent and avoid eating processed foods, wheat, sugar, meat, saturated fat, dairy products and drinking tap water. High calorie foods are replaced with low calorie, but high in nutrients foods.

Daily exercise is important too. The belief is that taking in the optimum nutrients from the smallest amount of calories will enable you to live longer and slow down the rate your body ages. The calorie restriction diet is supposed to stimulate the immune system, so makes you less prone to diseases, such as cancer, heart disease, strokes and diabetes. Less calories are believed to lower body fat, blood pressure, glucose and insulin levels and cholesterol.

Scientific studies have shown that calorie restriction does seem to slow the ageing process, but if you overdo it restricting your calories can lead to malnutrition. As with all diets, the Calorie Restriction diet comes with a health warning.

The Caveman Diet / Paleo Diet/ Warrior Diet

This eating plan is based on the ancient diet of the caveman during the Paleolithic era, namely wild plants and animals.
Tom Jones is reported as having successfully lost 12kg on the Caveman Diet.

The Caveman Diet involves eating healthy natural ingredients such as: fish, meat, eggs, vegetables especially roots, fruits and nuts and drinking plenty of water.

No potatoes, sugar, grains, lentils, salt, dairy products or beans. No additives or preservatives or over-processed and refined carbohydrates - just natural food.

Tasty recipe options suggested are:
Breakfast - Scrambled eggs with mushrooms and pinenuts, or a bowl of blueberries

Lunch -Broccoli & Pine Nut Soup

Dinner - Pumpkin Chicken Curry, or grilled trout with butternut squash

Snacks include: pumpkin seeds or a boiled eggs

champagne diet Champagne Diet

This diet is one of the few that allows alcohol as part of the weight-loss plan. It is popular with celebrities who cannot avoid partying when trying to keep in shape. The diet allows 1,200 to 1,400 calories a day and was created by Cara Alwill Leyba, who started blogging about her love of champagne.The main idea of the diet is for 'women to live their most effervescent lives.'

The average glass (125ml) of champagne is around 93 calories, and because the bubbles reach your bloodstream faster you tend to drink less. This diet suggests eating high quality food, such as salmon as opposed to a burger. Learning to value your body more and only choosing the best foods you can to eat makes you less likely to overeat. Try and think 'your body is your temple' attitude!

Certain champagnes are made without the addition of any sweetening, such as Laurent Perrier Ultra Brut, and are subsequently even lower in calories (around 65 calories per 125ml glass), but they are much more expensive!

The type of diet which allows you the occasional indulgence can prevent you feeling too restricted and less likely to give up. This tends to be a more sustainable and successful eating plan, and a healthier way to lose weight.

The Clean Program

This is a 21-day detox plan that has been developed by cardiologist Dr. Alejandro Junger. The weight loss program consists of a special formulated shake, containing brown rice protein, vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants and vegetable fibre plus supplements for breakfast and dinner, and a lunch of protein, grain and vegetables - like salmon and vegetables or a nutritous green salad.

The three key elements of the Clean Program are to Remove, Restore and Rejuvenate.

Demi Moore, Gwyneth Paltrow and Debra Messing have all been reported to have successfully lost weight on this popular detox program. As with all detox programs, you should check with your doctor before starting them.


The Cookie Diet - Dr. Siegal

Kris Jenkins, of The New York Jets, is reported to have lost 20 pounds by eating 6 special cookies a day. The cookies replace
1-2 meals a day (breakfast and lunch) along with a proper dinner.The cookies, chocolate, blueberry, banana, coconut and oatmeal and raisin, are made from a mixture of milk, eggs, soy, wheat and non-vegetable protein. One cookie contains 2 grams of dietary fibre, 5 grams of protein and 2.5 grams of fat, and are 90 calories each. The weight-loss diet of around 1,000 to 1,200 calories a day is proving popular across the United States. Successful dieters should expect to drop 12 to 15 pounds the first month.

Dr. Sanford Siegal, D.O., M.D. created the cookie diet in1975. The cookies are reported to help suppress your hunger, whilst you are following a weight loss program, as they apparently contain a secret blend of protein amino acids. Nicole Polizzi , an actor in "Jersey Shore' is also believed to be a follower of this diet.

Cooler Cleanse Detox

This US juice and raw food cleansing program, is reported to be one of the reasons actor Salma Hayek has such a fabulous figure after pregnancy and a glowing skin. She is said to have used the organic juices for many years and is now involved in their production. The freshly prepared detox juices are delivered, but are only available to residents of New York. The juices include apples, almond milk and watermelon, lime, grapefruit, mint, coconut water and nut milk with dates.

For a short period of three or five-days, 3 regular meals are replaced with 6 delicious, fresh-pressed juices, and alcohol and caffeine is avoided. The program has around 1,200 calories a day. It is advised that you drink plenty of water. Fans of the detox program report feeling energised.
